The Dolomites, Italy – Day 2

Today we try to start a bit earlier and driving the opposite direction than yesterday. After a 45 min drive we arrive at a parking spot at the small Lagazuoi (2.778m). Today we are doing something special. The Kaiserjägersteig with some war tunnel hikes. Yes, a workout with history what else do we need. This hike is a simple and a nice walk up the mountain in serpentine. The mountains like walls around us and you can see the hut at the peak of the mountain already. Info: You also can use a lift to get to the peak. The weather is just perfect. A little colder than yesterday but in total, nice and sunny. After the nice walk we are staying before big, wooden steps. They are looking like made for giants. We can play Alice in Wonderland or Jack and the beanstalk. I really like that idea! My imagination is already jumping around and searching new magical head stories. For this part we don’t use our safety gear because it is not really …

The Dolomites, Italy – Day 1

2 Days in Italy at the well known tre cime, the UNICEF world heritage side. Hour start point was the lovely small town Misurina on Lago de Misurina. It is a tiny town with only a few hotels, some restaurants and a small shop. From here you can reach the tre cime in just 20 min with a bus shuttle. We have decided against the car because some friends have told us, that the car park will be really stuffed. INFO: the bus shuttle is not running all year around and there are different times between summer-season and winter-season. The perfect start was a small fountain at the bus stop. Clear, fresh water to fill up all the bottles we have had and to be ready for the climb. The bus was driving through forest, some small villages and step by step got us higher into the mountains. We started pretty late, yes its holidays so sleeping a bit longer must be ;), but at  10am we arrived at the peak. (Jep, look at the …

Living and working in Iceland – week 2/3

Iceland is still one of the most fascinating country’s I have visited so far and yes that’s mostly because of the all-day changing nature. One minute it is snowing, then rain and a few minutes later it is perfect sunshine. This weather changes makes also my work pretty cool because the landscape is changing constantly. I know now already that the horse jobs are not a job what you can do your life long (was never my intention but who knows!). I already have realized that we should respect these people way more, doesn’t matter if they are just working in a normal stable and cleaning every day your horses box or if they are taking you from a to b. These people working 8-10 hours hard body work, still a lot of stress and getting mostly a bad pay. The one thing why they are doing it is – because they love their job! This is the most important reason! I am working here already 3 weeks long and not one day has felt …

Living and working in Iceland – questions

How do you have found that job? It’s really easy just search on the internet or Facebook, there are many companies who are searching for helping hands and tour guides. Which age is required? The most people need workers over 18 years because of the driver license. How much do you get paid? I can tell you that it is definitely not as much as an architect. I have enough to life and for my surprise I can save some money. (Off course I need to pay my horses stable at home otherwise it would be more but still I am really surprised) What are the main differences between Icelandic horse riding and western riding? There are a ton. I am a western rider but for my luck I have ridden also English what makes it for me easier. The Icelandic horses are used to have contact with the rider over the rains. Yes you can let them hang loose when you just walk but when you want to tölt no way with the most …

One week in Iceland

So this is now my first article over my living and working in Iceland. What can I tell you so far? My start was pretty good because at the moment it is off-season and here are just a decent number of tourists. We don’t have had a full day with like 80 people and that is really nice for the tourists, for us and the horses. At the farm we are at the moment 2 girls as well as our boss. He is jumping around between 2 stables but mostly he is every second day here or every day when there are a lot of tours going on. How does my day look like? My working day start at 7.30o clock with feeding the horses. After the horses are fed it is time for our breakfast and we make us ready to start the day. Now we can decide how many layers of clothes we take on but mostly under 2 layers no chance. For me that’s pretty cool because normally I would sit at …

A New Chapter

It is sooo weird how a life can change in just 1 year. When I look back I have a picture of a hard working woman sacrificing her youth for someone else dreams. So what has happen in 1 year? (from March 2018 till March 2019 I was traveling 5 months around the globe I have learned to train horses I have got my first horse I have got my strong will back I have survived a 10-day silent meditation camp I have started soap making I have meet incredible people and have seen amazing countries I have quite my safe job as an architect I have made finally a desiccation Yes it was a fun and curious year and I know that still soo many articles are missing. Life goes on and it’s never getting boring with me so what’s next? I will work from March on a view month in Iceland. I will work as a tour guide for horseback adventures. I will not see that much from the country but I will …

The truth over the job: architect

Since I have studied architecture and have some years of work experience I find it more and more annoying how wrong the picture in society from architects is. For this I want to end with some of these typical standard questions. I also hope that this is helping some students who want to start with the study. The most common questions or ideas are: You are earning a ton of money! This is the biggest lie I have ever heard. Take this situation: you are working in a normal architecture office drawing construction plans and making maybe some “design” (you are not a construction manager) than holly shit no. Architects are the worst paid job in the whole engineer group. You want to have a ton of money? Do something else. You will be happy to pay your rent maybe 2 holidays per year and maybe safe 100 euros per month for the pension. That’s it. These architects who earning a shit load of money working ridicicolous days, they have their own office and a …

Bangkok

I need to say that Bangkok is really not my city that’s why I have decided to make only a short post of what you can see and what you should avoid. These are all my own experience and off course over the years that can change. Some short Tips what you should know and avoid in Bangkok: Tourist Information: I am sorry to tell you that you should make a big circle around the tourist information. It is a massive scam and more like a travel agency than tourist information. They just want to sell you tours. People on the street: If a stranger comes to you and say that it is a public holiday today and all the big Buddhas are free… scaaaaaammmm. I have meet so many people who were told the same and in the end it’s still costing something because — NO public holiday. Tuck tucks: I think the first few days after you have arrived you will learn the prizes. I think it’s just a reminder here that they …

Daily life!

What has changed after my travel? Do I have changed? After a long term travel I think there are more questions than before.Yes I have solved some but not the most important ones. These have been since years for me: what do I want in my life, with what do I want to earn my money or what makes me happy. I have got some answers, that’s what I know but I also don’t search anymore after a fixed one. Life is a flow and this question can change every day or minute. A good friend of me has told me once, that she doesn’t make any plans anymore, she knows what she want but how it will come she doesn’t need to figure out, it just comes. Yes normal life is different! It has a lot to do with routine. The normal day starts with jumping out of the bed (OK rolling out of this perfect cosy planked and still hold on to it), jumping into the bathroom to look sort of normal after …

Security in Nepal

This post is a personal note to my travel in Nepal. I was a long time searching around by myself to find information for the hiking and for my own safety in Nepal. The first clear thing what I can say is –NO NEPAL IS NOT INDIA- I was in the beginning scared of the influence from India. Yes I have heard a lot of horror stories of raping and death there. But Nepal is in my opinion a really safe country. There are just some rules you should follow for the cultural aspect. Wear long pants and t-shirts who are going over your shoulder If you are staying longer than a few days in Kathmandu buy a mask for your face or a round scar because of the dust. When we are already in the city’s of Nepal there are also some other safety aspects. BECAREFUL of the monkeys. Sounds like a joke but you will see why! They are used to people and they can steal your stuff. The dogs have been mostly …
