Yes, life can really suck sometimes, and I mean really suck!
Maybe you lose your job, your relationship ends, and your friends let you down. Just imagine the worst-case scenario you can think of – and we’ve all had a few of those, haven’t we?
The last few weeks, my life was going smoothly. Everything seemed perfect, and then, one day, it all flipped.
I was heading to the gym in the morning but ended up being way too late. I could already feel that big, angry black hole of frustration in my belly – and that’s never a good sign. Normally, I’d tell myself, when that happens, just get as much exercise and rest as you can. But, well, work demands attention. Some people tried to talk to me, but I wasn’t my usual happy self. I hated everything, even myself. Work was boring, then stressful. I felt physically ill. In the evening, we had a work event, but I wanted to pick up some medicine from the pharmacy, only to find it closed when I got there. I just sat at home, thinking, Okay, my luck phase is over.
All in all, that day was just awful.
Now, let me tell you what I did when I got home. I just sat there with no internet because the tech guy never showed up…
Sounds terrible, right?
I had two options:
- Cry, scream, hate myself, and eat a ton of chocolate.
- Try to find a way to see the positive side!
I chose option #2. I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down things I had accomplished, like: finally getting the letters to the post after weeks, working out, getting free food, and not being stuck behind a desk all day because of the event. I also had some great conversations with new people, and so on.
I felt a little better, but still not 100%.
Next step: take action! I searched for an emergency pharmacy, and lucky for me, one was only a 10-minute walk from my house. It was dark by the time I left.
Another decision:
- Stay at home and go tomorrow, even though I need something tonight, and I’ll be super busy tomorrow.
- Go for a nice walk to the pharmacy – if it’s closed, at least I’ll have gotten some fresh air and a little exercise.
Of course, I went with option #2.
The walk was amazing, and I didn’t let myself stay in a bad mood at home. The pharmacy was open, I got my medicine, and I felt so much better.
Back home, I still had the issue with the internet, so I called the tech people. They couldn’t help me, but hey, there’s always a book to read!
In the end, I felt fantastic – all because I decided not to let myself feel bad.
If I were to describe my day now, it would sound something like this:
I slept in a little but still managed to get to the gym, had an amazing workout, and talked with inspiring people. I worked half a day, got free food and drinks, and spent the evening enjoying a lovely walk and reading a book while sipping kombucha.
Sounds much better, right?
The truth is, our thoughts dictate how we feel. Change your thoughts, and you change your feelings!
So let’s make today a good day and fill it with positive thoughts!
